Our students choosed best alternative for leather, plastic , and paper

Empathy,  passion and design thinking makes our students as young innovators. Recently our students from Atal Tinkering lab zphs Dharmavaram choosed best alternative to the plastic,  paper and leather.  This innovation got first place in state level SCIENCE FAIR 2023 conducted by the school education department of Andhra Pradesh.  Young environmentalist  Yasaswini vanapalli and her team made luggage bags , hand bags,  phone pouches,  card covers etc by using bio waste.  She is urging the people to reduce usage of plastic,  paper and leather.  Because all above materials are causing to environmental pollution and deforestation. Let us know briefly about these passionate students innovation.

TITLE OF THE PROJECT: PAPER AND PLASTIC FREE PACKAGING

                                ABSTRACT

Problem Statement: There is  plastic quantity will be reached  more than fish quantity in the oceans by 2030. Its crucial issue of irresponsible usage of plastic . Millions of living species getting extinction due to global warming , environ mental pollution and climate change. So some of the countries  like India has been banned the many plastic components  like carry bags , straws , spoons water and tea glasses etc and ready to shift towards paper made products. Paper made products are biodegradable but they are causing to silent deforestation intern damage the environment. Today paper is also has huge scarcity due to  lack of sufficient wood pulp. Because forest area is  decreasing rapidly from 30% to 17% and creating huge environ mental imbalance since last 30 year.  So people should search for other than paper made and plastic products.

Solution:  we are choosing best paper and plastic free alternatives in cost effective manner made by using agriculture  bio waste . we use  dry banana stem peals in developing packaging material , plant pots , stationary etc. Also we use Aronda donax like weed plant stems to replace wood.

Applications: Farmers can get additional income for their agricultural bio waste. Possible to make value addition to the banana crop. Easy to reach sustainable environmental goals.

Story beyond  the innovation : Yasaswini said "
In my 8 th class I was participated in the painting competition on the topic titled as
pollution . Then I reviewed different pollution creating factors and  their quantities . I was
surprised with data 386 billion hectares of the forest has been lost since 2001 due to paper
making. Later I  was work on making digital paper project for reduce paper usage . I
could achieved by made white paper app published in MIT app inventor platform.
Later I thought about how to avoid paper from packaging industry . Again I
could choose the  best alternative to the paper and plastic with bio waste. I thank to my mentor cum father to his tremendous support in my journey ".

Description of Our innovation
Paper less and plastic free packaging boxes and carry bags which made up of bio
waste collecting from banana plant stems are very strong , light weighted , durable
and flexible . Banana crop is abundantly cultivating in all over the world
especially in Asian countries . After crop cutting,  Banana stems are not using in any
specific manufacturing . Recently one of the technology developed in taking
yarn for making bags and ropes . Generally major banana crop stems treated as
agri waste and using to de compose in the soil . Here we have developed novel
technology in making corrugated sheets (banana bio waste sheets) which can used
in making packaging boxes , card board sheets etc . Blending principle works properly in giving more strength to the sheets in both vertical and horizontal direction.  This raw material can available
abundantly at low cost and no environmental damage can possible .
Conclusion:  Team members of the innovation are want to become young entrepreneurs and eagerly waiting for the support from the innovation incubation centres to bring this novel packaging technology in to the society.
