Holistic Learning Approach: Student Tasks per Competency

It's sure! The holistic teaching learning process can be enabled to the overall development and the matured personality among the students. 

As per guidelines of NEP- 2020 ,  NITI Aayog – Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has suggested to fallow the holistic learning approaches in the schools. 
There are five major competencies comes under the holistic learning approach such as

2️⃣ Socio-emotional Development
3️⃣ Language & Communication
4️⃣ Cognitive Development
5️⃣ Creativity & Imagination


Here's a detailed and structured list of student tasks (minimum five for each) under every competency and corresponding activity.

1️⃣ Physical Development

🔸 Focus: Fitness, strength, body coordination, and endurance
Activities & Tasks:
a. Yoga & Breathing Exercises

Practice Surya Namaskar daily

Maintain a 7-day breathing journal

Learn 5 basic asanas and demonstrate

Create a yoga routine video

Reflect on benefits of yoga in a short essay


b. Sports (Indoor/Outdoor)

Organize a mini sports event

Track your daily physical activity for a week

Learn rules of a new sport

Team up and participate in group games

Create a poster on "Benefits of Physical Fitness"


c. Dance & Movement

Choreograph a simple dance routine

Present a cultural dance from your region

Record a 2-min freestyle movement video

Research and share how dance supports fitness

Collaborate on a dance for school events


d. Fitness Challenges

30-second skipping challenge

Push-up/squat/step-up record log

Measure heart rate before/after exercise

Create a "Fitness Bingo"

Track hydration and sleep for 5 days


e. Nature Walks & Field Trips

Maintain a nature observation diary

Identify 5 plants/animals during the trip

Take eco-conscious notes (litter spotting, etc.)

Collect natural objects and write their story

Sketch or photograph findings from the trip

🔸 Focus: Empathy, cooperation, self-awareness

a. Group Discussions

Participate in daily class circles

Initiate a “Feelings Friday” chat

Lead a discussion on an emotional topic

Share one inspiring personal experience

Write a reflection on a peer's shared story


b. Peer Buddy Programs

Be a buddy to a new student for a week

Help your buddy in one learning area

Create a “Buddy Goals” tracker

Reflect and share challenges as a buddy

Write a thank-you note to your buddy


c. Role-play & Drama

Enact a scene showing conflict resolution

Script a 2-min play on kindness

Act out a real-life event of helping someone

Perform an emotion guessing game

Reflect on a character’s feelings in a drama


d. Gratitude Journaling

Write 3 things you're thankful for daily

Make a “Gratitude Tree” display

Share a story of when someone helped you

Interview elders on what they're grateful for

Gift a hand-made thank-you card to someone


e. Emotion Games

Play "Emotion Charades" in class

Match facial expressions to emotions

Draw your day as a comic strip
