Field Trip as an Interdisciplinary Learning Laboratory Author: Ramesh Vanapalli, Science Teacher, Andhra Pradesh, India Abstract Field trips are often viewed as supplementary activities meant for observation and recreation. However, when designed thoughtfully, they can transform into powerful interdisciplinary learning laboratories . This article documents a field trip experience where natural rock surfaces exhibiting biological weathering became a live platform to integrate Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Environmental Studies . The approach emphasized Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) , student-driven inquiry, experimentation, data collection, documentation, and research extension. The article also evaluates the effectiveness of this teaching–learning strategy, highlighting its strengths and limitations. 1.
